My Yoga Practice

I call my yoga, Lunar Yoga, which comes from my spiritual connection with Native American Medicine and the lunar wheel. It is based on the sacred circle of life where everything we do and everything we are continually revolves around the circle. Like the phases of the moon our energy is constantly shifting from fullness to waning into restfulness and then waxing back to fullness, just as the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. I like to attune my yoga practice to this rhythm because in essence the practice of yoga is akin to the cycle of life as it teaches self-awareness, self-actualization, and creative expression.

Yoga RetreatI think yoga is about living a conscious life. The science of yoga is inclusive to how you act, think, feel, move, eat, pray, and love. For me, there is completeness to a yoga lifestyle. The word yoga translates to “yoke” or “join;” it is a coming together of mind, body, and spirit. Self-discovery is maximized with yoga and I am afforded the opportunity to reach a higher potential of being alive with the freedom to choose. The tools taught in yoga are accessible and profound vehicles for healing and awakening our authentic self. Personally, I aspire to practice this with wisdom, an open heart, and with joy.

Yoga Alliance is an organization that was started to create yoga teacher and yoga teacher training standards for recognition at a national level. Many facilities offering yoga are requiring their teachers to be YA registered at either a 200 or 500 hour level. It is neither a requirement nor a law to be a registered teacher with YA.
